CARIBBEAN READS

fiction

Join us and our host, Corinne, every month as we dive into Caribbean literature. Born and raised in Trinidad & Tobago, Corinne will pick books written by authors based in the Caribbean, and across the Caribbean diaspora. This club invites you to experience the rich culture and history of this region through their stories. This club is usually held on the last Monday of the month, unless otherwise noted.

You can find some of Corinne’s staff picks here. Have a suggestion for a book to read? Let us know!

Please note: Caribbean Reads will not be meeting in December. See you in the new year!

Caribbean Reads will be meeting on Monday, January 27th at 7 pm. We will be reading The Restless by Gerty Dambury, translated by Judith G. Miller.

About the book:

Structured like a Creole quadrille, this lyrical novel is a rich ethnography bearing witness to police violence in French Guadeloupe. Narrators both living and dead recount the racial and class stratification that led to a protest-turned-massacre. While Dambury's English debut is a memorial to a largely forgotten atrocity, it is also a celebration of the vibrancy and resilience of Guadeloupeans.
