Shemora Sheikh (S.M. Sheikh) is the Curator of the Feminine Arts for Rites of Passage Institute (a position she has held since 2010) where they focus on healing through the feminine arts. She is the author of Hennaglyphics: How to Henna, Fatinah & the Gold Adornments, and The Meal Treasury.
Raised in the henna culture, for her, being a professional henna artist is one aspect of a larger tradition. Her work in henna art & design has led to diverse commissions, including fashion shows, performances, weddings, retreats, art museum exhibits, and music album covers. She has worked as a henna artist for over 20 years and gives lectures, workshops, and seminars on henna body art, science, and history. With a B.S. Degree in Sociology, much of her early career is in K-12 education. She lives in North Carolina with her zawj where they homeschool their starseeds and drink tea around the firepit!
