Lost City Books is seeking a new bookseller to join our team! We are a tight-knit, creative and collaborative group who all have varied tastes in books but all share a deep love of reading! Our shop aims to serve the Adams Morgan and DC community through a carefully curated collection of new, used, and rare books, as well as author events, book clubs, and more.
Lost City booksellers are responsible for welcoming customers to the store, providing positive and thorough customer service, maintaining and organizing inventory, opening and closing the store, cash handling and POS transactions, and general upkeep to the store’s appearance and aesthetic. We are a thriving and active bookstore, with an internal culture that we value. So we're looking for excited candidates that will be high energy, excited to work with us, and interested in being involved in all that our store does.
Booksellers are expected to be voracious readers and consumers of culture (in whatever form suits your fancy, be it books, plays, films, music or art). We ask that all of our booksellers acquaint themselves with the trends of the literary world, including bestsellers and popular books, and are expected to become familiar with the general ins and outs of the book industry. Our booksellers are expected to eagerly help customers find books and to engage in discussions around books and culture. Booksellers should be self starting, active, organized, and have the ability to multitask.
Booksellers may be asked to complete other tasks, such as art for the store, cleaning, social media, book repair and maintenance, shipping of merchandise, moving boxes of merchandise, and attending book buys outside of the store. Booksellers should be ready to assist as needed with large projects that drive the big-picture goals of the store.
