we’re going on vacation!

Summer in DC is a particular variety of hot. For the fourth year running, we’re celebrating the lazy, hazy, humidstickysweaty days of summer in the city the best way we know how -- by taking a vacation! We love seeing you and selling you books everyday, but it is a lot of work and we can't wait to kick our feet up for some well-deserved rest and relaxation.

Some of us will be taking up residence at Banneker Pool. Some of us will be camping in Shenandoah. Some of us will be staying inside reading in front of our window units, and some of us will be attempting to sleep for seven days straight!

 
 

To celebrate our vacation, we’re holding a 20% off sale on in-store and online purchases the weekend leading up to our break, August 16th and 17th. You can continue to support us by shopping on our website while we’re closed, with a 20% discount for online orders from August 18th through 28th. Many are calling it the sale of the season…

The store-wide summer sale is always a busy affair and it remains our ONLY sale of the year so if there are books you've been waiting to purchase, then wait no longer!!! Mark your calendars for August 16th and 17th, and come out and show your favorite independent booksellers some love, clear out our shelves, and wish us a relaxing and restful vacation.

FAQs:

  • We will be open from 10am to 9pm on Saturday, August 16th, and 10am to 8pm on Sunday the 17th. The shop will re-open at 10am on Friday, August 29th.

  • Nearly everything — new books, used books, rare books and collectibles, cards, notebooks and stationery, merchandise — will be 20% off. (The two exceptions are books from our dollar carts & a select few used books — we’ll let you know if this applies during checkout!)

  • Orders placed any time during the 18th through the 29th will be processed ON THE 29TH -- even if you pay for priority shipping, set your order for pickup in-store, etc. We can’t guarantee we will process all orders placed during the weekend of the sale (the 16th and 17th) before we go on vacation, but we will do our best!
